The Village of Tequesta made its first steps in "Going Green" at the annual Neighborhood Block Party and Concert on April 18, 2008. Approximately 800 local residents came out to celebrate the kick off of Tequesta's "Got Rec? Go Green!" initiative. The Parks and Recreation Department enticed area residents to contribute to the environmentally friendly event by offering a free hotdog or veggie burger to those who rode their bike. Along with tasty food and beverages, local residents enjoyed the sounds of Sweet Justice reggae band while the children enjoyed the amusements, including a rock wall, dual inflatable slide, bounce house, petting zoo, limbo contest, and face painter. Both Palm Tran and Solid Waste Authority participated in the event, handing out educational materials and encouraging residents to be more environmentally conscious. In particular, Palm Tran educated the public on the Link, which now services the Tequesta area and uses Earth friendly biofuels. The Solid Waste Authority also contributed by providing recycle bins for the event and encouraging the community to recycle. Tequesta's efforts in "Going Green" will continue in November with the 5 th Annual Harvest Festival which will feature "green" and health vendors, in addition to live concerts, thrill rides, children's adventure area, pie bake off, and bingo.
