From the New Testament portion of today's One Year Bible reading:
Acts 26:8 & 25
vs.8 - "Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?"
vs.25 - "What I am saying is true and reasonable."
In Acts 26 Paul, standing in chains, defends his faith before king Agrippa and governor Festus. Paul is not intimidated by the wealth, status, and power of his interrogators. Throughout his speech he seeks to persuade these politicians, as well as the other movers and shakers in the audience, to join him in the faith. He doesn't manipulate their emotions. He doesn't say "You ask me how I know he lives, he lives within my heart." Rather, like a first-century Perry Mason, he lays out the evidence in order to convince, to
persuade. Is Christianity a matter of the heart? Yes. But it's also a matter of the mind. Christianity is the thinking person's religion.
I pray that today, you will read
ACTS 26 and renew your confidence in the faith that is
true and
reasonable. Please pray that for me.
