Connect the Dots
The mission of Vero Christian Church is to connect Christ with community. This blog is dedicated to random thoughts about those connections. Making them, and keeping them strong is the challenge (read opportunity) that lies before us.

Having just re-read Louie Giglio's book,
The Air I Breathe: Worship as a Way of Life
this summer, I was intrigued by the working definition of worship he uses. That definition stikes me as perhaps the best I have ever run across in my 21 years in "professional, paid ministry." Giglio defines worship as:"...our response, both personal and corporate,
to GOD - for who He is!
and what He has done!
expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live."
As a "worship leader" it is my desire to help people respond to God, not just in a corporate setting on Sunday mornings, but every second of every day of their lives. To worship is to "ascribe worth to" so if God is worth anything to us, we worship Him all the time. We worship God by the way we treat the cashier at the grocery store, or by the way that we treat other drivers in traffic, or by the way we treat our spouse and children when we come home from a long day at work. But wait a minute, you say. How is any of that worshiping God? We express our worship of God by the way we live each day. Sadly, many of us who claim to worship God in a corporate setting on Sundays, carry absolutely none of that "worship" over with us on Monday morning. Jesus said whatever we have done to the least of these we have done to Him. John says followers of Jesus are known by their love.
I guess the next time someone cuts me off in traffic, I should praise the Lord, instead of blessing that person out, eh?

Well said. Great definition of worship, Scott. Couldn't agree more, and thanks for the reminder.
