Snake Worship
Contributed by: Steve Jones   on 6/30/2009

From II Kings 18:4
"Hezekiahbroke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it. It was calledNehushtan."

Moses had made a bronze snake that the Israelites could look to in faith for healing when they were bitten by poisonous vipers (Numbers 21:8-9). Since then, someone had been carrying that bronze snake around through 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, 7 years of military campaigns to conquer Canaan, through the reigns of David, Solomon and then the successive reigns ofall the kings of Israel. Somewhere along the line, over the centuries, the Israelites began to worship this thing as a god!

Few objectsare intrinsically "wrong" or "sinful" in and of themselves. But ANYTHINGcan BECOME wrong or sinful when we allow it to displace God in our lives.

I pray that today, you will set apart Christ as Lord in your heart (I Pt.3:15). Please pray that for me.
