Throughout both the public and private sector in Indian River County and beyond, Barbara Sharp's tropical musings have included over five thousand murals gracing doors, walls, ceilings, corporate jets and yachts, thousands of yards of designer fabric, hundreds of rugs, a plethora of portraits and paintings, and numerous pieces of furniture, wine glasses, vases, turtles, and other inanimate items that have been transformed into Objets d'Art. On Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 5:30 - 8:00 pm at the ArtsMojo Gallery and Showroom in Wabasso a carefree evening of whimsy, wine, and nibbles of niceties are planned to mark the opening of Barbara's first Tour d'Art exhibition scheduled to run through June 15th.
Generous in talent is just the beginning of Barbara's artistic repertoire. She has selflessly provided magnificent works of art, in addition to her time, helping children and adults create artistic masterpieces for auctions and fundraising efforts for numerous charitable organizations throughout the community.
Most noted for her contribution of turtles for the Mental Health Association's TurtleTrax© galas, Barbara has also presented paintings and other artistic pieces to such non-profits as Hibiscus Children's Center, McKee Botanical Garden, Cultural Council of Indian River County, Humane Society for the past 18 years, New Hope Christian Academy, Alzheimer & Parkinson's Association of Indian River County, Vero Beach Hibiscus Festival and numerous more.
Since ArtsMojo's opening a little more than a year ago, gallery owner Kristin Knudsen, an artist and interior designer herself having previously owned Newfound Arts & Antiques in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, has played host to numerous local, national and international artists and artisans offering fine handcrafted items, eclectic pieces of blown glass, prints and original paintings, pottery, one-of-a-kind fine jewelry and more. Their motto "Beauty to the Eye...Magic for the Soul" is fitting. "
What makes this gallery so unique is that there is infused humor and whimsy in many of the pieces that makes one continually walk around smiling" Knudsen said.
Fundraising being an art in and of itself, ArtsMojo, like Barbara Sharp, has also combined the two genres by helping add to the coffers of such organizations as the Sea Turtle Survival League division of the Caribbean Conservation Corp, the Humane Society of Indian River County, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and most recently a "green artist" event commemorating Earth Day being Kristin is a member of the Indian River Green Team.
