AT&T, a leader in the entertainment and communications industry, recently announced sponsorship of Workforce Solutions' newest Mobile Career Center. In recognition of the sponsorship, AT&T's logo appears within the newly design graphics that are displayed on the Mobile Career Center exterior, which also dons Workforce Solutions new brand identity.
"In recent years, budget cuts jeopardized Workforce Solutions' ability to maintain our Mobile Career Centers," explained Gwenda Thompson, Workforce Solutions President/CEO. "We appreciate AT&T's contribution and are excited about our partnership with them. Our ability to serve the community is enhanced by the generosity of companies like AT&T. The public/private partnership strengthens our local workforce system and increases our response to business. "
Workforce Solutions purchased two mobile computer labs for the purpose of providing workforce services to employers and jobseekers from any location within the Treasure Coast region - including Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and Indian River counties. The Mobile Career Center, equipped with state-of-the-art computers and audio-visual equipment, also provides Internet access.
The Mobile Career Centers serve a unique purpose that enables Workforce Solutions to deliver cost-efficient services in neighborhoods where the services are most needed, and serve as an emergency center, if necessary.
From the Mobile Career Center, employers may place job orders for new employees, review resumes submitted to EmployFlorida (the state's automated workforce system), and interview qualified candidates for job openings. Additionally, the Mobile Career Centers provide on-site training for employers interested in enhancing workforce skills.
Jobseekers can review jobs online, obtain referrals for jobs, send resumes, make appointments for a job interview, or enroll in classes at Indian River State College. "Workforce Solutions and Indian River State College partner to ensure that our local workforce has the skills needed for the high-tech jobs we are attracting as we become the Research Coast," said Edwin R. Massey, Ph.D., IRSC President. In the near future, jobseekers can access workshops, tutorials, and orientations online as Workforce Solutions implements a new interactive website in the next year.
"While AT&T's work in innovation, research and development is focused on the company and its customers, we are aware that our vision has a broader impact," explained Marshall Criser III, AT&T President-Florida. "To innovate with the best interests of society in mind, we apply principles of sound, responsible and forward-looking stewardship to the needs of society. With that understanding, AT&T works with groups, such as Workforce Solutions, to develop new and improved ways to perform everyday functions. The Mobile Career Center is one example of innovation that supports the economic growth of the communities we serve. One of our key personnel, Ms. Catherine McKenzie, Area Manager for the Treasure Coast and Chairwoman for Workforce Solutions, is providing leadership that is creating more innovative ways to deliver workforce development programs and services in this region. We believe, that as one of the world's largest companies, we should support and encourage innovative projects like the Mobile Career Center."
The Mobile Career Centers maintain a regular schedule in Martin County at the Morgade Library on Mondays and Tuesdays and at the Blake Library on Wednesdays and Thursdays. In addition, Workforce Solutions plans to announce regularly scheduled neighborhood locations for the Mobile Career Center in Indian River County in mid-October. Other fixed career center locations include 1404 Old Dixie Highway in Vero Beach, 109 SW Park Street in Okeechobee and 2415 S. 29th Street in Ft. Pierce. A centralized, new state-of-the-art career center, replacing the 29th Street site, is slated to open in late December in Port St. Lucie. This center will provide all services to jobseekers and provide businesses and other agencies with options for training their employees, or holding large meetings.
"As a long-time resident and legislator for the Treasure Coast, I want to thank AT&T, Florida President Marshall Criser, and his great team for the support they've provided to Workforce Solutions," commented The Honorable Ken Pruitt, President, Florida Senate, and honorary member of Workforce Solutions board of directors. "The involvement of private business in workforce development is critical to Florida's ability to build the talent needed for Florida's economic future."
Workforce Solutions, also known as The Workforce Development Board of the Treasure
Coast, is a private, 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation that coordinates workforce solutions for Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. The mission of the Board is to build an integrated workforce development system for jobseekers and employers by analyzing labor market needs, effectively and efficiently coordinating the delivery of resources, programs and services, and evaluating the results for accountability.
