I was recently lucky enough to have a one month break between all my cancer surgery and seriously going back to work full time. And believe me, it was a well needed break, but more important, it was an epiphany of sorts. I flew to Kauai, Hawaii. I snorkeled in clear blue waters, I rode horses through a green, lush valley down to a sparkling waterfall. I scaled a mountain with a belt and rope hooked to my waist. I hiked the Na Pali Coast on a trail so narrow and slippery, I thought I might fall to my death. I kayaked a river through a rain forest, and I walked ancient beaches made from volcanic rock.
I know lots of you have been keeping up with my breast cancer saga, and it's probably redundant to say that not taking the chemotherapy treatments was absolutely the best and most profound decision I've ever had to make in my life. But the real value in a decision like that, was to buck the system, to be a maverick, to absolutely ignore the prudent advice that was given me. The real value lies in saying," I lived my life now! On my own terms"
So let the stock market crash. Let politicians duke it out. Let the price of gas rise to insanity. I really don't mind, because I have truly lived.
