Greg is distraught. Dasher has died. We don't know how it happened. We came home from a shopping trip to find him stretched out cold on the bottom of his cage. Not knowing too much about birds, I believe he was older than the sales girl told us, and he died of natural causes. Anyway, we had a funeral and he was properly laid away to rest. Greg has been offered another bird; but so far declines "I loved Dasher" is his only response.
This being his first encounter with death is naturally going to leave its impression on him. At present he's very much subdued, but being a normal active little boy of seven nearly eight, this state of matters can't last too long. I hope he soon decides to have another bird. I don't like passing the empty cage.
We all liked Dasher. Greg completely trained him doing a wonderful job. He would fly around the room, alighting on Greg's finger or shoulder. He always greeted us in the morning or on our return with a cheerful chirp. Yes, we miss him. Greg naturally most of all. It's difficult to lose something you love, but even a seven-year-old has to learn life's lessons the hard way.
