An Icy Beginning

Had I been whirled through time and space? Could this be another planet? Or wonder of wonders had Fairyland appeared overnight to mortal eyes? The Ice Age at the dawn of time? Would the next illusion be a dinosaur, woolly mammoth or maybe even a saber toothed tiger? No! I was standing at my own window in my own house.
Through the lacy frosted designs I could see children at play, sliding, slipping, with all the endurance of hardy pioneers traversing Mt. Everst and laughing in childish glee. I stood surveying the breathtaking loveliness that dawned in a freak ice storm bringing silvery splendor but also destruction of trees, hazardous roads and ultimate chaos to Plainsview, Texas. Heralding in a unique way the beginning of a new year.
