Contributed by: Cynthia Falardeau on 6/26/2007

The public is invited to take steps to benefit local students and teachers. This year's Second Annual Wisdom Walk and Health Fair will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Indian River Mall from 7:30 a.m. - Noon. This popular event is a "fun-raiser" for the Education Foundation's School Supply Fund. It is also an opportunity to educate students, parents and teachers about healthy initiatives that impact academic achievement.

The event begins with a walk held inside the Indian River Mall. Registered participants receive a goodie bag, t-shirt, shopping coupons, and a chance to win fabulous door prizes. A health fair features community businesses and resources that serve students from. The event concludes with a special Teacher Fashion Show presented by Macy's Department Store.

Proceeds help to purchase $34,000 in classroom supplies for public elementary schools. This year the program is being expanded to include Oslo Middle School. The program serves two purposes; it supplies students with necessary materials and it provides financial support to teachers who often spend their own money to fill in funding gaps. Last year more than 600 classrooms benefited from this program that touched nearly 10,000 students in Indian River County.
