The Education Foundation of Indian River County recently honored the members of the Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority for their support of the County-wide Backpack Drive.
More than fifty members of Delta Kappa Gamma gathered at their annual meeting on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, in the Café of Vero Beach High School. Education Foundation Executive Director Cynthia Falardeau presented President Mary Jacoby with a certificate of appreciation from the Foundation's Board of Directors.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority donated 86 complete backpack kits to the County-wide Backpack Drive in early August. Sorority members worked all year to collect and stuff the backpacks. The Education Foundation of Indian River County, Community Church of Vero Beach, Macy's and employees of the School District of Indian River County office worked together to collect and distribute more than 700 backpacks at the start of the school year.
"Working together to serve more students is what it is all about", commented Education Foundation President Lanse Padgett. "We are always looking for business and community groups to help us do more. We are grateful for Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority's support", added Padgett.
The Education Foundation is looking for community groups to help join the effort for next year'sdrive. To learn more about how you can help: contact Cynthia Falardeau at the Education Foundation office: 564-0034 or email:
