The Education Foundation of Indian River County recently accepted a computer from Technology Partners. The donation will benefit an advanced placement high school student in need. The effort is part of a new Education Foundation program called Cyber Scholars.
The Cyber Scholars program offers economically disadvantaged, advanced placement, public high school students' computers and internet access. Students are identified and referred by their guidance counselors. The Education Foundation is seeking nearly new computers that have Intel Pentium Four processors and Windows XP. In addition, monetary donations are needed to provide internet accounts for students. The program is funded entirely through private donations.
The Education Foundation's mission is to offer educational opportunities to all primary and secondary students and teachers in Indian River County. This undertaking is accomplished through effective fundraising and the efficient allocation of resources. Ninety percent of all funding comes from private donations and grant assistance. The Education Foundation of Indian River County is the only education foundation in the State of Florida to serve both public and private schools. The Sneaker Exchange Program, the School Supply Fund, the Great Ideas! Grants Program, and the Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair Program touch nearly 17,000 students and teachers.
