Contributed by: Cynthia Falardeau on 8/15/2008

The Education Foundation of Indian River County and RBC Bank held a special reception on Tuesday, August 12, 2008. The event was held at RBC's downtown branch office. More than 100 teachers, principals and community leaders attended the party.

RBC Bank rolled out the royal treatment. Each teacher received a complimentary ream of paper and an opportunity to select free office supplies for the coming year. Mary Beth Mazzarella of Treasure Coast Rotary, Vero Beach also distributed 2,000 pens and pencils. In addition, five $50 Staples give cards were given away while guest enjoyed a bountiful buffet and refreshments.

County Commissioners Wesley Davis and Peter O'Bryan were joined by RBC President Andy Beindorf, and SDIRC's Sue Curtis to lead the toast and wave of appreciation on behalf of the entire community. "We appreciate the difference you make each and every day for the children of Indian River County," commented Mr. Davis. Mr. Beindorf added, "RBC Bank is proud to be part of this celebration. We want you to know we support you and appreciate all that you do to help our students be successful."

RBC employees were on hand to help teachers carry out the loads of new office supplies they acquired. They also gave their time to help plan and host the event. The Foundation would like to thank RBC's team: Daniel Fourmont, Andy Beindorf, Karl Steene, Shawn Marchetti, David Hooper, Chris Bieber, Barbara Armour, Chris Killion, and Barbara Kaplan.

The Education Foundation works to build partnerships in the community to benefit the students and teachers of Indian River County. It is through these efforts that 90% of the Foundation's funding is raised through private donations and grant assistance. This support enables the Foundation to fulfill its mission to enrich and enhance educational opportunities for all students and teachers, in both public and private schools, through effective fundraising and efficient allocation of resources. The Sneaker Exchange Program, School Supply Fund, Great Ideas! Grants, Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair Program and teacher development initiatives are just a few examples of how the Education Foundation of Indian River County makes a difference for more than 17,500 students in Indian River County.

The Education Foundation is one of only two education foundations in the State of Florida to operate independently from the local school system. At the same time, the Foundation works closely with school administrators, principals and teachers to determine funding priorities.
