Contributed by: Cynthia Falardeau on 8/21/2008

Vero Goes Vegas....Priceless

"Vero Goes Vegas" is the Education Foundation's annual casino themed fundraiser. This popular event moves from the last event of the social season to the first! You could even say "Vero Goes Vegas" has moved to the front of the class!

Speaking of class, the proceeds of the "Vero Goes Vegas" event benefit local primary and secondary classrooms in Indian River County. The Education Foundation's Sneaker Exchange Program, School Supply Fund, Great Ideas! Grants and Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair Programs touch more than 17,500 students and teachers.

Best of all here is a snapshot of what the proceeds from this event will support:
• 1,700+ Backpacks for students in need.
• 105,000+ in classroom and school technology grants.
• 2,000+ pairs of new socks and sneakers to keep children on a path of learning.
• 700+ classroom teachers to receive $50.00 Staples gift cards to purchase supplies.
• $350,000+ in academic awards and college scholarships through the Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair.
• Additional funding to support teacher development and retention workshops.

We hope you will save the date of Friday, October 3, 2008. Our new, fresh and exciting event, Vero Goes Vegas, will be held at the Moorings Club. Professional Vegas showgirls and Elvis will welcome guests into an open casino featuring blackjack, slot machines, roulette, craps, and of course Texas Hold'em tables. Cocktails, including a vodka bar, hors d' oeuvres and auctions will also be part of the sizzling action. A live professional Vegas dinner show will be the highlight of the evening. You also won't want to miss having your photo taken with our Vegas celebrities.

Tickets to this glamorous event are $175 per person. This great entertainment value includes cocktail hour, open bar, seated dinner, professional Vegas gaming and dinner show, live auction, and chances to win Vegas travel certificates. Best of all, the entire event will make a difference for the students and teachers of Indian River County - just priceless!

This event is organized by a volunteer committee. Co-chairs: Patrice Stowe and John Campione. Supporting committee members: Lanse Padgett, Dan Bockhorst, Jay Campana, Chris Bieber, Tuny Hill, Kristin Ashcroft, Sandy Mann and Adrian Smith. The event's major presenter is the George E. Warren Corporation.
