The Education Foundation of Indian River County accepted a generous donation from Target. Nearly 12,000 spiral notebooks were donated to benefit the students of Indian River County. The notebooks were distributed 26 public schools.
Matt Meyers, Target Team Member, explained, "Target is very dedicated to supporting education. We are happy to help the students of Indian River County." June Wright, also a Target Team Member added, "Target is always looking to give back, we are happy to lend a hand."
"Due to the size of the donation, we sought the help of the School District of Indian River County Warehouse Team," explained Executive Director Cynthia Falardeau. "We were so pleased to receive that the call from Target. We quickly learned the gift was assembled on eight pallets!" "That's when we called our friends at the School District to help collect the donation," added Falardeau.
"The Education Foundation is always building new relationships that benefit the students and teacehrs of Indian River County, "explained Education Foundation Board President Dan Bockhorst. "This is a great example of how our role in the community makes a difference, " added Bockhorst.
The Education Foundation of Indian River County was founded nearly 17 years ago to strengthen the Indian River County Schools. The founding members identified the need to involve local business and community leaders in the process. Since that time the Foundation has grown to serve public and private school students and teachers by enriching and enhancing educational opportunities through effective fundraising and the efficient allocation of resources. Today, the Sneaker Exchange Program, the School Supply Fund, the Great Ideas! Grants, the Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair and teacher development and retention initiatives touch more than 17,500 students and teachers. These programs have delivered impressive results and academic gains.
The Education Foundation of Indian River County is one of very few Foundations in the State of Florida to operate separately from the local school district. This unique structure allows the Foundation to infuse funding directly into the schools. Ninety percent of all funding comes from private donations.
