Sneaker Hop Raises $3,000 for Students in Need
Contributed by: Cynthia Falardeau on 11/17/2008

The Dwellings Design Center hosted a special Sneaker Hop event to benefit the Education Foundation of Indian River County's Sneaker Exchange Program. The event raised $3,000 in less than two hours to help more than 150 students in need. All of the proceeds will provide Indian River County public school students' sneakers to participate in all classroom activities.

More than 50 people attended the 50's themed reception that featured live music by the Jerry's Golden Oldies Dance Parties and the Dolls, priceless cars from the Indian River Region Antique Automobile Club of America Inc. and soda shop food provided by Dwellings Design Center.

The Sneaker Exchange Program is a referral program that provides Indian River County students in need with new socks and sneakers to participate in all school activities. The program was founded in 1993 by the Junior League of Indian River County. In 2002 the Education Foundation of Indian River County took over all administrative and fundraising responsibilities. At this time the Foundation expanded the program to serve public school students in need in grades Pre-K through 12th grades. The program is funded entirely through private donations and grants.
