Education Foundation Launches New Event: "Rags to Riches."
The Education Foundation of Indian River County invites you to the most popular party of the year, "Rags to Riches." This fundraiser celebrates how education transforms lives from the ordinary to the extraordinary. The Saturday, November 14, 2009 event invites friends of the Foundation to participate in a variety of fun activities that will remind them of their school house days at the beautiful Moorings Club.
Roll call, the start of the party, begins at 7:30 p.m. with a homeroom style introduction to the Foundation's programs. Vignettes will feature the Foundation's five core programs. Each display will give guests the opportunity to participate through the use of technology, hands on science experiments, or grant demonstrations. Class will then be dismissed as the party moves to a spread of hearty hors d'oeuvres that may just remind you of your childhood favorites. Gaming tables will provide a lesson in mathematics and a live auction will give guests a chance to pledge their support to make a difference. Guests will also have the chance to get a professional photo taken. Don't worry it won't go in the yearbook!
"We wanted to create an event that was tied to our mission of offering educational opportunities to all Indian River County students and teachers," explained new Board President Sue Tompkins. "Education is so important to our children and our community. We feel we have created a unique event that will be a lot of fun and will raise vital funds for our programs and services," added Mrs. Tompkins.
Guests are encouraged to wear sneakers with their cocktail attire. "It's a new twist that pays homage to our Sneaker Exchange Program." explains co-chair Ann Tharpe. "We want our guests to have fun and to gain an understanding of the many ways we serve the students and teachers of Indian River County, "added Tharpe.
Currently the Education Foundation is seeking event sponsors and is pre-selling tickets for $100 per person. Interested sponsors may contact Cynthia Falardeau, Executive Director at (772) 564-0034 or by email: director@edfoundationirc.or. Pre-sale ticket customers may purchase tickets by sending a check made payable to the Education Foundation of Indian River County, Inc., P.O. Box 7046, Vero Beach, FL 32961. Visa and MasterCard payments may be made by calling Cynthia or Mary at (772) 564-0034. Space to attend is limited. The event is expected to sell out, so buy your tickets today!
