Contributed by: Cynthia Falardeau on 6/16/2009

June 16, 2009 - Vero Beach, Florida: The Education Foundation of Indian River County received a $5,000 check from the Merchants Association of Florida, Vero Beach office. The funds will be used to support the operation of the Foundation's five core programs: The School Supply Fund, the Sneaker Exchange, the Great Ideas! Grants, the Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair and Teacher Development Workshops.

For more than twenty years the Merchants Association of Florida, Inc. (MAF) has reinvested funds back into the communities it serves. Over $3,250,000 have been returned in the form of scholarships and funding of many worthwhile programs throughout MAF's service areas. The primary focus of these reinvested funds has been towards support for education and children's programs. Other educational support has included funds provided to various county public education foundations.

ROC Associates, LLC and MCB Collection Services, Inc. of Vero Beach announced their combination with the Merchants Association of Florida in April of 2008. MAF has been serving the needs of business since 1916 throughout the United States. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida MAF has decades of experience dealing with privacy issues and handling confidential information. Thousands of Mortgage, Tenant Screening, Human Resources and Collection Professionals have come to rely on MAF as a valuable partner.

The Education Foundation of Indian River County is the designated education foundation for the School District of Indian River County. Each county in Florida has a designated education foundation that serves to develop and foster business and community partnerships that enrich and enhance learning in our public schools. One of the most important roles of education foundations is to link and engage business leaders who have the potential to invest in public education through financial donations and volunteer services.

The Education Foundation of Indian River County operates completely separately from the local school district and is funded almost entirely through private donations and grants. The Foundation works closely with the local school district to prioritize program and funding needs. This unique structure allows the Foundation to direct funding directly into the classroom, thus avoiding restrictions that often come with other funding sources.
