The Education Foundation of Indian River County is pleased to announce the grant recipients for the month of October. More than $4,700 was awarded to seven schools. Two types of grants were awarded: classroom grants called "Quick Response Grants" and uniform grants called "Liberty Grants."
Five schools were selected to receive "Liberty Grants" funded by Liberty Medical Supply: Alternative Education Center, Beachland Elementary, Saint Peter's Charter Academy, Pelican Island and Vero Beach Elementary. Each school received $500 to support the school's unified dress program. All funds will be used to assist children in need.
Five Quick Response Grants were awarded to fund classroom projects. The funding for the Quick Response Grants comes from the Florida Legislature's Matching Grant Program. The Education Foundation matches the State dollars with private donations. Below are the October grant recipients:
• Dee Hall, Pelican Island Elementary School, "DynaMath" - $500
• Jerri Anderson, Pelican Island Elementary School, "Vocabulary Parade" - $500
• Garry Curry, Vero Beach High School, "Intensive Reading/ESE" - $294.30
• Carol Haffield, Vero Beach High School/Freshman Learning Center, "Science Kits and Supplies" - $484.73
• Kimberly Owens, Sebastian Elementary School, "Intensive (RTI) and Extension" - $500
The Great Ideas! Grants program has been in existence for 13 years. During this time the focus has always been to fund innovative teaching concepts that encourage a new love for learning. The Education Foundation seeks to fund grants that have the potential to become part of the established curriculum and that deliver measurable outcomes. The Foundation is always seeking new sponsors to help fund grants that fulfill the unmet educational needs of the public and private schools.
