The Board of Directors of the Education Foundation of Indian River County have begun the Sneaker Exchange Annual Appeal Campaign to provide more than 2,000 children in need with sneakers to participate in all school activities.
Education Foundation board members serve on the Sneaker Exchange Committee to lead the fundraising effort: Co-chairs Debbie Biedenharn and Charles Croom are joined by Johnny Benjamin, Bill Furr, Ann Tharpe, Patrice Stowe, Jennifer Taylor, Sue Tompkins and Adrian Smith.
More than $38,000 is needed to fund the continuation of the program for the 2009-2010 school year. The Sneaker Exchange program is funded entirely through private donations and grants. The program serves 25 public schools in Indian River County.
The Sneaker Exchange program keeps economically disadvantaged children on a path of learning by providing them a pair of durable sneakers to participate safely in all school activities, comfortably, and proudly. There are 65 scheduled exchanges for the elementary students at the Payless ShoeSource from September through May. Secondary students receive vouchers that are redeemable for a new pair of sneakers. School coordinators help to identify children in need using the Free and Reduced Lunch Report.
The Education Foundation is seeking donations to help students in need. All donations are restricted for the purpose of purchasing sneakers and socks for children in need. A simple donation of $15.00 will help a purchase a pair of sneakers. A donation of $500 will fund a school visit. Community partners who donate $1,000 or more will help to fund several school visits.
To make a tax deductible donation visit the Foundation's website: www.edfoundationirc.org to make a donation on-line. Donations may also be mailed: P.O. Box 7046, Vero Beach, FL 32961. For additional information or questions, please call: (772) 564-0034. The Education Foundation of Indian River County is non-profit organization (501c3 #59-3118402)
