Members of the Vero Beach Power Squadron (VBPS) held a Junior Navigation Graduation Party last week. Three individuals graduated at the top of the class and now hold the designation of JN.
This is just one of several ranks/designations you could have after your name. How do you get one (designation) you may ask? Good question! Try visiting the website ( www.verobeachps.org/ ) or come on by and they (VBPS folks) will explain it, further. Its an education process that revolves around boats.
Basically it's a boaters voluntary program of study, which provides you the where with all to navigate the waters of the world safely and with confidence. This program provides the education in a classroom, which helps when you go to the school of hard knocks, when you're on the water in your boat or with someone else, on their boat. It's a terrific program taught by a bunch of great VBPS experienced boaters in Vero Beach
The classes are held at the squadron building located at 301 Acacia Road, Vero Beach next to the Barber Bridge at the Mac William boat basin. They (VBPS) always have things going on there.
Enough of that, now more on the party. Matt (SN) and Maureen Matheson's (AP) annual congratulatory Junior Navigation Graduation Party was held on February 28, at the Mathewson's home. There were 18 attendees celebrating David Connolly, Rob Kane and Dan Thomas's success.
Matt had a Junior Navigation problem for them to solve and Rob Kane was the first to get the correct answer. I guess that means he was paying attention in class. Way to go Rob.
David Brooks (SN) grilled hamburgers and Bob McCurdy (SN) cooked hot dogs with all the trimmings and Cole slaw. David's daughter, Jo D. from Williamsburg, VA and Emily Merry were guests.
Congratulations to David Connolly JN, Rob Kane JN. and Dan Thomas JN.
