JCHS Senior Receives Congressional Medal for Volunteer Service

John Carroll High School senior, James Lauriello was awarded the prestigious 2008 Congressional Award. The award was given by Congressman Tim Mahoney on May 10 th in JensenBeach.

The Congressional Medal Award is presented to only the top percentage of high school students with the most impressive number of service hours on a plethora of topics. These topics include personal development, leadership, physical fitness, and expedition planning. James gained many service hours volunteering at the FloridaOceanographicCenter in Stuart and creating the Environmental Studies Center Junior Council.

The Congressional Award is the most prestigious volunteer service award given to high school students. James plans to use his knowledge from the FloridaOceanographicCenter and the EnvironmentalStudiesCenter toward a PhD in Marine Biology
