Vero Students Attend World Affairs Seminar in Wisc

Rotary Club of Vero Beach Sponsors Vero Beach High School Students to World Affairs Seminar in Wisconsin

The Rotary Club of Vero Beach sponsored 6 local Vero Beach high school students to attend a week-long seminar at Carroll University in Wisconsin this past June. The World Affairs Seminar is a unique educational program for high school students which provides a forum for future leaders to be introduced to some of the most perplexing global issues and problems. It enables hundreds of the brightest students from over 50 countries to come together to study and discuss current issues. Emphasis is placed upon promoting a better understanding of the causes of international conflict with the thought that if the causes are understood, problems are more likely to be solved peacefully by our future world leaders. This year's issue was World Hunger.

The 6 students who participated were Brianne Manning and Emily Jennings from the Indian River Charter High School, Eva Lauer and Sydney O'Haire from St. Edward's School, and Ashley Villar and Alex Pheneger from the Vero Beach High School. All of these students hold high scholastic averages with plans to pursue higher degrees at the college level. Each student gave presentations of their experiences to the Rotary Club of Vero Beach. All students were very enthusiastic about the time spent with their peers from around the globe and the opportunity to become more aware of problems unique to specific countries. The Rotary Club of Vero Beach thanks each participant, the school administrators and the families who allowed their children the opportunity to participate in such a worthwhile endeavor.
