GYAC Future Achievers Pageant a Great Success
The Gifford Youth Activity Center's held a Future Achiever's Summer Pageant in an effort to raise the self esteem and verbal communication skills of middle and high school youth who participated in the Summer Camp.
Eunice D. Singleton coordinated the multifaceted event. Self expression was encouraged and supported as the students performed a wide range of entertainment including; rap, creative dance, oratorical, poetry and step dancing.
The Summer Reading Program was the catalyst and vehicle to teach students the importance of proper speech and etiquette in social settings. The students exhibited their talents to an audience of 150 people including fellow campers and the Special K Seniors. One other goal of the program was to bridge the gap between generations. Local seniors and the Future Achievers had the opportunity to meet and interact. As the students entertained the audience they brought forth the message that the youth still look to the Special K generation for guidance and encouragement.
The first Future Achievers Summer Pageant made everyone at GYAC proud of the efforts of the students. The performers were rewarded with praise and applause for their accomplishments. The Social Etiquette program will be building on this success and plans to make the Summer Pageant an annual event.
