CONTACT: Robert O'Rourke,772.794.5471/ ror312@yahoo.com On Friday, 27 November,1942, James Marshal "Jimi" Hendrix was born 69 years ago in Seattle,Washington. To celebrate this anniversary, artist Robert O'Rourke, is opening his colorful new exhibit, "Hendrix,Paintings of a Guitar Virtuoso". The artist, who has art displayed around the world, has painted Hendrix at many performances including the "Monterey Pop Festival",June 1967 the "Fillmore East",December 1969, and the huge "Woodstock Festival", August, 1969.Hendrix is also features candid images of a pensive, thoughtful young man, who was quite the opposite offstage than his ferocious,"Wild Man", guitar burning, onstage persona. It is in these images that perhaps the real man is captured.Hendrix is featured wearing clothes that quite possibly, only he could get away with. Colorful shirts and scarves, his wild hair and bandanas, bolero hats with bands & feathers, Indian jewelry, silver belts & rings on his extremly long fingers, these all a part of as the english called "His Kit".Favoring the Stratocaster guitar,Hendrix is caught playing with his teeth, behind his back, between his legs, etc and all the while moving and rocking to the music.Yes , his music, unable to get this down on his canvas, O'Rourke concentrates on the striking image of this thin, 6 foot, black man, as he concentrates through out on creating music with only a three piece band,"The Jimi Hendrix Experience". This was however, not a problem, as Hendrix, with ex jazz drummer Mitch Mitchell,(1947-2008),and former guitarist, Noel Redding, (1945-2001), on bass, went on to create some of the most amazing and timeless classics of the Rock and Roll era. With lots of color and appreciation for Hendrix music, Robert O'Rourke has captured the unmistakeable, virtuoso guitarist, song writer, singer, who wowed people around the world in just a few short years on the planet. This exhibit is dedicated with love to my son, Rory James O'Rourke.
