The 5th Annual Indian River Firefighters' Chili Cook-Off held on Saturday, October 25th, was a huge success, despite the rain. This year's event was held at Heritage Park located in Pointe West.
Over 30 area restaurants and individuals alike prepared chili from their own recipes. Each one was judged by local celebrities and dignitaries and, for a donation, were available for taste testing. Winners in the chili cook-off were selected in six separate categories. Among the winners were Lori Carch for her award-winning recipe in the individual category; St. Edward's Upper School came out on top in the school category; and Waldo's chili won first place in the restaurant category.
Along with the tasty chili there were several other family-fun activities with a jet car demonstration, fire rescue fire extinguisher demonstration, a children's area with pony rides, arts & crafts, and bounce houses, as well as a Star Search by Wave 92.7 FM.
The sponsors for the event included Pointe West, Indian River County Recreation Department, Riverside Café, Culinary Capers Catering, Wave FM 92.7, Star 94.7 FM, Vero Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Donadio & Assosiates Architects, P.A., Press Journal and Budweiser King of Beers.
