A little over 4 years ago, Asbury United Methodist Church, was collecting Pop cans and turning them in for money to help feed the Homeless, I saw an article in a magazine that some one was collecting the tops off of Pop can for something like for furnishings for McDonalds homes near Hospitals, for the young oeople who were in Hospitals and their parents could stay there and be near. Got the idea that we could do this and also help the same cause. There is more money in the tops than in the rest of the cans. Since then I have been taking them off cans and have collected some 200 gallons of tops. I turn all of my tops into a group of Retired Air Force couple, who take them to Boca Raton and turn them in.
Just because of others hearing of this I have gotten a couple of boxes from Texas and one almost gallon from Maryland. Others collect them for other purposes, which is good. Having seen one of these homes, you can see that it is going to a very good cause. McDonalds was the start and is still doing their good work, others can help. It helps our young families and their children.
8 Gallons of these that we took pictures of were from Dodgertown Elementry School, they were collected by one of the teachers class. The Teacher was Judy Forgham, this was done during the 05 - 06 school year. The kids also deserve a little credit, because they did the work of bringing them in from home. Also is a good lesson for them to learn to help others at this young age.
