Ground Broken for New Latter-Day Saint Chapel
August 2, 2008 - The Vero Beach congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints held a formal groundbreaking ceremony for a new chapel to be constructed at 3980 12 th St. in Vero Beach. The new chapel is being constructed by Chilberg Construction and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2009.
Attending and participating in the ceremony were local dignitaries including County Commissioners: Sandra Bowden, Gary Wheeler, and Peter O'Bryan. Commissioner Bowden spoke to the audience of approximately 93 people and expressed her warm welcome and congratulations to the Vero Beach congregation.
Stake President Wade Litchfield, who presides over congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from Vero Beach to Jupiter, addressed the audience describing the rich history of the church and its bright future in our area. Also speaking was Bishop Gregory Bray of the Vero Beach congregation.
Following the service, the ground was formally broken with gold shovels by Commissioners Bowden, Wheeler, & O'Bryan along with President Litchfield, Don Smarinsky, Rick Norton, Bishop Bray and Steve Chilberg. The shovels were then turned over to those in the audience deemed most valuable to the church - its members and families.
