Last Wednesday was one of those mornings when you truly appreciate the fact that we live in Florida. Blue skies and a nice breeze with temperatures in the 70's. It was a perfect morning for getting together with friends, do a bit of gardening and give back to the community.
Members of The Garden Club of Indian River County "Jasmine Circle" teamed up withEverything Outdoors to plant a flagpole garden at Young's Park in Vero Beach. "What a beautiful morning." said Gay Brown, as she put on her green garden gloves, "Let's get digging."
The plants were laid out according to plan, and with shovels in hand, the planting began. "We chose tough stuff to ensure the success of this garden" said Spencer Porteous, owner of Everything Outdoors. "Gardening is easy when you put the right plants in the right place. As they say, round peg, round hole." Crinum lilies, cardboard palms, star jasmine, variegated arbicola and african iris were all used in Young Park's newest garden.
"We're all so pleased with the way the garden turned out" said Linda Beardslee
"It's such a beautiful park."
The Garden Club of Indian River County was organized in 1928 and became a member of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs in 1933. The purposes of the club are: to further the education of our members and the public in gardening, horticulture, floral arrangement and landscape design; to beautify our county through various civic projects; and to study and assist in the protection and conservation of native plants and natural resources.
