After recently moving from a very spacious home into a one bedroom apartment with limited space, I wondered, how will I continue recycling. Not only is there limited space, but recycling does not get picked up from my apartment since it's on the second floor over a business. This limits the services provided by the county.
The waste we create never actually goes away. Organic matter may decay and become part of the soil, but manmade materials break down and seep into our soil. This can effect plant growth and our drinking water supplies. For this reason, recycling and not filling our dumps can be a passion for all people.
The solution was to find a space for recycling and dispose of organic waste every day or two. So, what I have done is set up in a coat closet, some hangers, that have plastic grocery bags dangling from them. Each bag has a designated material for recycling. Therefore, it is already separated when it is taken to be recycled on 77th Avenue in Vero Beach. There is even a bag for plastic bags and egg cartons to be recycled at the grocery store. On errand day, recycling is easily and quickly taken to the dump. Recycling is essential for the future of our families and generations to come.
