'Twas the Week Before Christmas Letter
Contributed by: Dorothy Rohde on 12/18/2007

'Twas the week before Christmas, (hope Santa will find me.)
Not a creature was stirring, not even a palm tree.
My stocking was hung, not a chimney anywhere.
In hopes that St. Nicholas, soon would be there.
I've retired to Florida. I no longer teach.
I've just settled down. I like Vero Beach.
I have a hotel job, working part-time.
(I'm trying my best, to make these words rhyme.)

When out on the beach, there arose such a clatter.
I spilled my "Mojito," to see what was the matter.
Away in my kayak, I paddled in a flash;
While pouring some lotion, on my fire ant rash.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a large manatee! (Hey, where's the reindeer?)
I knew in a moment, it was NOT St. Nick.
(So back to this letter. I'd best make it quick.)

More rapid than eagles, the year had flown by.
The children, all grown up, I say with a sigh.
Emily turned twenty, no longer a teen.
Still acts like a princess. (Does that make me queen?)
In the University's band, where she's enrolled in school.
It's the "Pride of Minnesota!" She's nobody's fool!
Her sister and she, vacationed together,
A road trip to Disney, enjoyed the June weather.
Then in September, back to Florida she came.
Held a baby "gator." Big deal! It was tame!
"Now, South Beach! Now, Lauderdale!" We both got a tan.
"On, SoBe! On, West Palm!" Please turn on a fan.

And Michael did celebrate. He graduated from college.
An Illinois alumni, his mind brims with knowledge.
Signed a minor league contract, to play summer ball.
(You mean he gets paid to hit balls off a wall?)
And then in September, a real job he got!
At a real TV station. Likes to work? NOT!
Spent Thanksgiving together, turkey I did cook.
He thought it was chicken! I gave him that look!
We'll see with the New Year, what blessings will come.
A spring training try-out. They'll see he's not dumb!

And last but not least, in Minnesota, Beth stays.
A new job at a "Y," in a pool with no waves.
It's aquatics, she teaches, to kids and all folk.
Loves going to work, and this is "NO joke."
In October, she flew, to that "city by the bay."
Not Tampa, but "Frisco." Hip! Hip! Hooray!
"Now, redwoods! Now, baby seals!" She rode a cable car.
"On, Big Sur! On, Monterey!" She wished upon a star.
And she and her sister, are ready to leave,
Cold weather behind them. They'll roll up a sleeve.
For it's me and the pooch, my twin bro' and the girls.
My FIRST VERO CHRISTMAS, no snow flakes or whirls!

May the magic this season, be yours to enjoy.
May God's sunshine embrace you, with happiness and joy.

Now it's time to exclaim, 'fore I turn off the light.
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"
