Mother's Day Contest Winner: Darlene Hodges
Contributed by: Micah Hodges on 5/4/2006

My mom is someone who gives and gives until she can't give anymore. Darlene Hodges is my mother. She is someone who is beautiful inside and out. She has given up her ambitions and goals to raise six children, homeschooling each one of them. Scott age 28, Kelly 26, Micah 16, Megan 14, Ethan 11, and Anna 7. She has pushed all of them to be the very best they can be. She could have chosen to be anything, a lawyer, or a doctor, but instead she chose to be a wife and a mother, the best and most rewarding job in the world.
Her time is spent in service to her family. Though her life is a never ending "to do list" she manages to find a little time for herself by swimming a few laps at the community pool or walking with her friends.
Kelly Hodges, the eldest daughter in the family had been renting an apartment at Fischer apartments for 5 years. Darlene suggested the idea of buying a fixer-upper. That way Kelly could get out of the small apartment and invest in a larger, more sufficient home. After purchasing a home in Sebastian, the prospect of juggling a full time job and fixing up a home seemed too much for Kelly, but Darlene stepped in and helped Kelly to see the end result. She encouraged her with her words and actions. Darlene began to take hours out of her already full schedule and put her time into helping her daughter renovate the house. She put in day after day, week after week to help fix the home. She did it knowing she would receive no profit or gain, except that she had helped her daughter when she needed it. There is no one single story to define my mom, her life is a story in itself. Although this one story may give you a small glimpse of my mother's selflessness.
People often think love is best displayed by saying "I love you" or some other form of spoken words, but true love and true kindness is best displayed by actions, and my mother has actions to prove her love time and time again. It would be impossible to capture her true character in written words. She deserves all the praise one can give. This is just a small way of saying how much she means to her family.
Happy Mother's Day Mom, we love you.
