Monday, WPTV Channel 5's Steve Weagle began his trek from Sebastian to Boca Raton in support of hurricane awareness for the American Red Cross North Treasure Coast Chapter. This is Steve's 9rd year making the 120 mile trek, which by car would take a little over two hours and by bike with stops and rests, will take him nearly five days. Steve began at Captain Hiram's in Sebastian and then went on to Dyer Chevrolet and Dyer Mazda in Vero Beach where Will and Tatiana Dyer presented the Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross with a $3,000 check. "It is our pleasure to support an organization full of individuals who make a difference in our community," said Tatiana Dyer, Owner Operator of Dyer Chevrolet, as she handed the check to Bob McCarthy, Development Director of the Chapter. Steve Weagle said during his 6pm live Weathercast, "Hopefully this hurricane season will be a tame one and we won't have to ask our Red Cross for too much this year." Sarah Ruwe, CEO of the Chapter, commented on the event saying, "We sure do appreciate all Steve does for the American Red Cross as we begin hurricane season. People like him help the public realize we need their help to continue to help others."
