The "Whole-House" automatic generator may be in fact the silver bullet for the prolonged power failures associated with tropical weather, but will they power the whole house?...Well, maybe and maybe not.
Whengenerator specialiststell you your generator will power your whole house, what they mean is that if you live your life normally...yes...every circuit in the home is useable. But you can't turn everything on at once. You probably can't have every burner on an electric range going full bore with a turkey in the oven and the micro doing pop corn and a house full of company with every light, TV, and stero blasting. If the generator is sized properly, you'll have no problem staying within the reasonable operating limitations of your system.
The other option is a partial panel solution. In this example a smaller generator is used, adequate enough to start and run your airconditioner but with residual power left over to power up a limited number of circuits usually about 12. This is a great solution for homes under 2500 square feet.
