One year ago, the members of Christ Church Vero Beach opened the doors of a new church and began a new era.
Founded in 2007, Promised Land Anglican Church, as it was known then, celebrated its first service in the rose garden of Roy and Mary Schick with 25 people in attendance on April 13, 2008. In May, Promised Land Anglican Church changed its name to Christ Church Vero Beach. With attendance growing, the search for worship space was under way. The church founders, Roy P. Schick, Jr., H. James Reamy, III, Michael Allik, and Lionel Lowry, III, proposed moving into a building that housed the former Luria's Department Store in Majestic Plaza. With manpower from a local construction company and labor from the congregation, the first service took place on July 5, 2008.
Now, one year later, with a congregation close to 500 members, Christ Church Vero Beach will celebrate a year filled with fellowship, healing, teaching, and outreach on Sunday, June 28. All current and previous members, as well as guests and visitors, are encouraged to attend the 10:00 a.m. service and stay for cake and refreshments. This will be a time for old acquaintances and new friends to gather and reminisce.
