Henry Sleeper Bussey celebrated his 90th birthday with 30 guests - relatives and friends - partying at the Bussey home on July 8, 2006. Clusters of blue and white balloons surrounded the pool area centered by a giant 4-1/2 foot birthday cake. Two life-size dolphins appeared to be jumping out of the pool. A 5 foot fibre optic "Happy Birthday" banner hung over a 10 foot banquet table feasting a myriad of hor d'oevres. A champagne and wine assortment dressed one decorated table and a varied cocktail bar was added pleasure. Strands of twinkling lights adorned the flowering shrubs and roses on the terrace and the night blooming jasmine performed its fragrance throughout the evening. Candles and fibre optic table decor added to the ambiance of the affair. Friends gave heartwarming toasts to Henry and joining in singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." It was a gala affair to be long remembered. Adding to this very happy event were a flood of telephone calls and cards of remembrances from the many friends all over the world. Some very dear friends, Rev. Obie Harrup and his wife, Marie were flying across country to be missionaries in Africa on the very day of Henry's birthday.

Henry was born in East Boston on July 8, 1916. His mother always said he was a delayed firecracker. He is a 50 year Mason, Shriner, Knights of Templae, a Marine veteran of WWII South Pacific. Belongs to American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is married to Lila Jeanne Harris Bussey for 47 years. He was in the business of developing cemetaries for over 40 years and is the past president of Associated Cemetaries of Missouri. A former president of the Lions Club, president and director for many years of the United Fund.

Henry and his wife retired to Vero Beach in March 2001 after living in Sikeston, Missouri for 41 years. They both love the ocean and dreamed someday of living on the water. Their dream came true when they found their lot and built their home here in Vero Beach.
