Marguerite Lane celebrated her 100th Birthday with a luncheon for family and friends hosted by The Arbors at The Lakes at Pointe West on Sunday, March 2nd.
In attendance to honor Ms. Lane was the Honorable Mayor Tom White and his wife, Jan. Mayor White presented a certificate of Honor along with the Key to the City of Vero Beach . Congratulatory letters from the Comptroller of New York State, United States Congressman Dave Weldon and Florida State Senator Mike Haridopolos were also presented by staff of The Arbors.
Ginny Lane, Ms. Lane's niece participated in the centennial celebration with a presentation on Ms. Lane's accomplishments and dedication to helping those in need.
Ms. Lane was born in Albany, New York on March 2, 1908 to parents, Walter J. Lane and Mary Stephens Lane and was the eldest of four children. Following graduation from Albany High School, she attended and graduated from Russell Sage College for Women in Troy, New York with a Bachelor's degree in Secretarial, Human Health Services and Social Services in 1929. She worked for the New York State Department of Civil Services focusing her energy on the indigent population and also worked at the International House in New York City.
Miss Lane loved to travel the world, spending time in Europe, Africa and Scandinavia. She retired to Jamaica in 1973 and returned to the United States in the mid 1990's. A woman ahead of her time, she was involved in the women's rights movement and with the socially and economically disadvantaged.
