US Rep. Mahoney Presents Museum With Official Legislation
Fort Pierce, FL May 10, 2008 - Congressman Tim Mahoney Rep. (FL-16) presented the National Navy SEAL Museum with the official legislation designating the Museum as the Official Museum of the US Navy SEALs and their predecessors. Mike Howard, Executive Director of the Museum, accepted the award on behalf of the Museum and its Board of Directors. Along with the framed copy of the legislation, signed by the President and the chair of both Houses of Congress, was the official pen used to sign the bill into law.
On Saturday, May 10, Rep. Tim Mahoney visited the Museum and presented it with the official bill making it the official Museum of the US Navy SEALs and their predecessors. This specific bill is the first piece of legislation by Rep. Mahoney to be signed into law, and therefore has special significance to him.
The ceremony, which was held at the National Navy SEAL Museum, was well attended by local veterans' groups, members of the media, and the general public. "This is something really special" one resident said "To be able to see the actual legislation and pen used by the President is a truly unique experience". Museum President Willard B. Snyder stated "It is a true honor to have Rep. Mahoney with us here on this special occasion. We cannot thank him enough for his tireless and unyielding efforts to help the Museum".
The Navy UDT-SEAL Museum is the only museum dedicated to preserving the history of the Navy SEALs and their predecessors, including the Underwater Demolition Teams, Naval Combat Demolition Units, Office of Strategic Services Maritime Units, and Amphibious Scouts and Raiders. Located in Fort Pierce, Florida - the birthplace of the Navy Frogman - the Museum promotes public education by providing the opportunity to explore the history of the Navy SEALs in an atmosphere of respect and honor.
