The Military Mom's Prayer Group is once again starting our drive to collect Holidays for the Troops (our American Heros). We are asking the Vero Beach Community and surrounding areas to please come forward and help support our soldiers during the Holidays. WE CAN'T LET THEM THINK THEY'RE FORGOTTEN.
We, Military Mom's, use our sons as contacts for the boxes. The U.S. Post Office cannot mail to an anonymous person so we address the boxes with our son's names. Our sons know and understand our program. They receive and sign for the boxes. The boxes are then handed out to the soldiers who don't receive any mail. This is done either by the mail room that knows who these soldiers are or by the commanders who know their soldiers better than anyone.
Our sons have told us "If you could see the faces on those who don't receive mail - it's heart breaking." They told us these soldiers will even huddle beside those who are receiving mail and read with them just to feel a part of something. It broke our hearts as Mothers. This is why the Military Mom's have become so involved.
We don't want to see a single soldier go forgotten or to have a single soldier feel left out. We must let them know they are loved and appreciated for what they are doing. Their state of mind can save their lives. How they go out into the battle field feeling, can make or break their will power to survive.
Please help us to help them.
There are 2 ways you can help - either pick up a Holiday Box - fill it - and personalize it from you OR just donate items for the Military Moms to mail for you.
#1 - PERSONAL HOLIDAY BOX:
1.) Pick up a Holiday Box, which is a pre-addressed flat rate priority box with customs papers already filled out and attached.
2.) Go shopping and fill the box as full as you can (weight does not matter - Postage is still just $10.95 no matter how heavy it is - just don't distort the box by over filling it).
3.) A list of items the soldiers long for and are allowed to receive is inside the box to help guide you.
4.) THESE BOXES WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PICK UP AFTER OCTOBER 15 AT:
a) EYE CLINIC OF VERO & OPTICAL BOUTIQUE - 632 21st Street (Miracle Mile Plaza - close to Hallmark Cards Store)
b.) TREASURE COAST JEWELERS & MUSIC STORE - 1126 21st Street (across from The Patio Restaurant in the pink building)
c.) SALON ESSENTIAL 2090 6th Ave. & 21st Street (across from Bank of America)
d.) WAVES AUTO SPA - Vero's Car Wash & Detail Center 1588 U.S. Highway 1 (16th & U.S.1)
e.) SEBASTIAN REALTY 1329 U.S.#1 (across from Mel Fisher Museum)
By picking up a box, you can personalize the box. Put in a letter; enclose a Holiday Card or insert a small Holiday Decoration.
THESE HOLIDAY BOXES WILL PROBABLY BE THE ONLY HOLIDAY THAT A SOLDIER WILL RECEIVE, SO MAKE IT GREAT. MAKE IT PERSONAL. WRITE A LETTER - GIVE YOUR ADDRESS TO WRITE BACK OR AN EMAIL ADDRESS. TRY TO BECOME A PERSON THAT THIS SOLDIER CAN RELATE TO. LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE THERE FOR THEM. MAKE THEIR HOLIDAY JOYOUS. THE MOST REQUESTED ITEM IS A LETTER!!!!
#2 - DONATE ITEMS FOR MILITARY MOMS TO MAIL:
The 2nd way you can help is just simply pick up an IDEA LIST for the soldiers (available at the above places where boxes can be picked up); go shopping and drop off your items at several locations around town. The Military Mom's will make sure your items are boxed up and mailed to the soldiers.
You can find drop boxes for items at several locations:
1.) EYE CLINIC OF VERO & OPTICAL BOUTIQUE in Miracle Mile Plaza 632 21st Street
2.) TREASURE COAST JEWELERS & MUSIC 1126 21st Street
3.) TREASURE COAST OB-GYN (Dr. Presley & Dr. Zoffer) 1000 - 37th Place Suite 105 (behind Perkins Pharmacy on 37th)
4.)TOM COLLINS INSURANCE 1555 Indian River Blvd. (Bridgwater Buildings - middle building ) Ste 130 end of hall
5.) HEALTHSOUTH TREASURE COAST REHAB HOSPITAL 1600 37th Street
6.) PUBLIX on Miracle Mile 526 21st Street
7.) PUBLIX at 12th and U.S.#1 1255 US Hwy #1
8.) PUBLIX at 43rd & Oslo 4145 9th St. SW
Either way is greatly appreciated. We have a goal to send 1000 boxes this year. If you would rather just donate to help with postage, the EYE CLINIC OF VERO & OPTICAL BOUTIQUE, TREASURE COAST JEWELERS & MUSIC, TREASURE COAST OB-GYN and TOM COLLINS INSURANCE have donation cans for postage.
In this day of what we call hardships, remember the hardships our soldiers are living in. You can give to soldiers who are separated from us and living in terrible conditions. You can get back that feeling of giving from the heart. It's easy to give when times are good, it's heavenly if you give when times are bad. Make yourself and a soldier feel good. Make your Holiday and a Soldier's the best you've ever had.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS YOU CAN CALL 567-6513. If you are interested in joining our Military Mom's Prayer Group you can call 231-2221for more information. The Military Mom's Prayer Group is an interdenominational group that meets weekly to support our Troops through prayer and outreach efforts. New Members are always welcome and the group meets from 5-6 P.M. on Thursdays at the Women's Refuge 1805 Lemon Avenue, Vero Beach
