Contributed by: Treasure Coast Navy League on 9/19/2006

The Treasure Coast Council, NLUS dinner meeting, Sept. 14 at the Carriage House, Vero Beach was enhanced by distinguished guest speaker, Rear Admiral T.R. Cullison, USN, Commander Navy Medicine East and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Va. Introduced by Rear Admiral R.G. Guilbault (retired) President of the Treasure Coast Council, Admiral Cullison spoke of the impact of recent technological advacnes and design innovations in Body Armor which prevent mortal injury and save lives. The U.S. Military's medical capability has so impressed the Iraqi army that their insistence that "if we get hurt, will you take care of us," reflects their attitude. Further, video teleconferencing contributes to medical intervention, particularly for psychiatric problems of combat fatigue, where the U.S. military medicine's pro-active ealry approach is a definite contributor to a more healthy fighting force. Also, Admiral Cullison emphasized that because of the U.S. military's medical response to Indonesia, which has the world's highest Muslim population, after the tsunami the U.S. approval rating there increased to 77% from a previous 25%.

Also in attendance at the president's table were Chief Warrant Officer Todd Kagarise USCG and his wife Regina, CWO Kagarise recently assumed command of the Fort Pierce Coast Guard Station. The meeting concluded when Admiral Guilbault read the Declaration of Adoption of the Fort Pierce Coast Guard Station by the Treasure Coast Navy League Council.
