CANNON TO BE RESTORED
Contributed by: Frank Deely on 2/21/2008

American Legion Post 39 has started to restore our cannon. It is now at Roger King's shop. Roger is doing the work on the cannon and will be done with it in a couple of weeks.

The Mennonites in St Jacobs, Ontario are going to restore the wheels. All this is a direct cost to the Legion.Roger King found a local person to build the wheels. That means they won't be sent to Canada. The cost is aboutthe same as it was but they are about done at this time. Much quicker than sending them to Canada where it would have taken a few months to get them back.

We need your help to pay for the cannon to be restored. Please donated what you can. Any amount will help.

The reason we are trying to restore this cannon we are told it is only one of 3 still in exsistance. It is a 1905 model that fires a 3 inch shell. Of course this dosen't fire anything as the barrel is pluged.

This cannon has stood sentinel outside our Post Home at 1535 Old Dixie Hwy since 1986. That was the last time it was restored. Since then the wind and rain has taken its toll on the 103 year old cannon.

If you can help please send your donations to The American Legion at
1535 Old Dixie Hwy or call us at 562-9726 and we will be happy to pick up your donation. We are non profit so your donation is tax deductible.

Thanks to the many freinds who have already donated time or money for the restoring of our cannon.
