Honoring those who have given so much!
Contributed by: Master's Academy of Vero Beach on 6/4/2008

Wednesday, June 4 th was not just the last day of school at Master's Academy. More importantly, it was Liberty Day. Liberty Day is when we pay tribute to those Master's Academy parents, grandparents, friends and/or siblings who are retired or active-duty military, reservist, or Veterans of Foreign Wars.

It is an appointed day to memorialize God's Hand of Providence in the foundation of America as a Christian constitutional republic, and to reinforce and celebrate the Christian virtues which our students are taught in the rich Biblically-based curriculum they study at Master's Academy. Additionally, it is a day set aside to restore the tradition of our forefathers of honoring patriots and statesmen who have nobly served God and our nation. Liberty Day was birthed to commemorate American's heritage of liberty as a Christian nation. It is a school-wide patriotic celebration on the last day of school which memorializes God's Hand of Providence in the foundation of America.

The day began with a Flag Retirement Ceremony put on by the high school. This is a reverant ceremony to retire an American flag properly. Grades 3-11 joined together to show the proper respect. At the completion of this ceremony the Fife and Drum Corp led us into the worship center to begin the Liberty Day celebration. Marine and Army Color Guards from Fort Pierce helped with the Pledge to the American Flag, Christian Flag and the Bible. Students in the Grammar school recited Isaiah 61:1-4 and sang The Light of Freedom. Kindergarten students recited 2 Corinthians 3:17 which says Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Middle school chorus students sang the National Anthem, Battle Hymn of the Republic and the middle school band played Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee. The middle school students also put on a dramatic presentation showing the traditions of our forefathers of honoring patriots and statesmen who have nobly served God and our nation. As the Middle School Chorus sang each of the Armed Forces Anthems the guests from that branch gathered at the back of the worship center to be honored. Grammar school students lined the aisle with American Flags held in respect as each servicemen was introduced and honored. As the middle school chorus sang God Bless America the names of those not able to be with us were honored. Colton Carmichael, grade 5, played Taps on his trumpet while we gave honor to those veterans no longer with us. Afterward we had a prayer of thanks for the sacrifices of all those military present and in the past who have given so much to protect our freedom. Master's Academy would like to thank the members of the Exchange Club of Indian River County and the Veterans of Foreign Wars for joining us for this special time. "The external vigilance which is the price of liberty must be exercised, sometimes to guard against outside foes; although of course far more often to guard against our own selfish or thoughtless shortcomings..." by Theodore Roosevelt, December 6, 1904.
