Chief Visits Vero Beach Power Squadron
Contributed by: Robert Scully on 5/31/2009

The Vero Beach Power Squadron had a visit with our Chief Commander at the Friday Night Social. Once again we had a great turnout. During the visit he shared a few stories and had conversations with many. At one point during the evening he addressed the group over the PA system and suggested that "Whatever we were doing we should keep doing it" as it seems that we are one of the more active squadrons.

He is in some of the photos wearing a dark jacket sporting a full beard. Here is more about the man. This is an excerpt from Stf/C Gregory T. Scotten, SN, USPS Marketing/ Public Relations Committee:

The United States Power Squadrons installed Creighton C. Maynard as its fifty-first Chief Commander. The 2008 Annual Meeting of America's oldest and largest boating education organization met in Dallas Texas as delegates from across the nation representing 45,000 members joined the event.

A son of the Lone Star State, Chief Maynard grew up in Beaumont, Texas and graduated from Texas A & M University before entering the military. He earned his law degree and Juris Doctorate from Baylor University in 1961 and has since practiced law in Fort Worth. He has been an avid boater and Power Squadron member for many years.

His wife, Glenda, a former elementary school teacher, has been an active volunteer in interests including the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She was welcomed as the organization's new "first lady".

Commander Maynard has held many USPS positions. He served as Law Officer for a large district running from Texas to the Florida Panhandle. His national posts included Member Involvement, Rules, and Government Relations as well as bridge officer of both the national Administrative and Executive Departments.
