On Sunday, October 4, at 7 p.m., the fourth year of the community-wide Social Justice Film Series will present the documentary, "The Power of Forgiveness." The series is always free and open to the public.
"The Power of Forgiveness" explores the spiritual, physical, and psychological benefits of forgiveness and includes interviews with Elie Weisel and Vietnamese Buddhist leader Thich Nhat Hanh. In this emotional documentary, an Amish community rocked by a school shooting, survivors of 9/11, victims of the "troubles" of Northern Ireland, and others share their views on how forgiveness has helped to alleviate their grief and resentment.
The topic of the documentary is timely with the film less than a week after Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. During this holiday, a Jew tries to amend his or her behavior and seek forgiveness for wrongs done against God and against other human beings.
Gale Parmentier will facilitate the evening, and Rev. Dr. Maureen Killoran will lead the discussion.
The UU Fellowship is located on the southeast corner of 27th Avenue and 16th Street in Vero Beach. For more information, phone 772-778-5800.
