Red Hat Luau

Basking in the Florida sunshine, with gentle breezes off the ocean 90 Red Hat Ladies gathered at the Vero Beach Inn for a LUAU on Saturday, Sept 25, 2009. The Luau was sponsored by Dazzling Dames in Red and the Lucie Goosies, both from Port Saint Lucie.

Attending were ladies from the following Red Hat Chapters: Capella Rosa, Classic Crimson Cruisers, Classy Red Foxes, Dazzling Dames in Red, Foxy Red Hatters, Glad Hatters of Vero, Lovely Ladies of Lakewood, Lucie Goosies, Pampered Pack of Peacocks, Pizazzy Pineapples, Rebels with Hatatude, Red Bonnet Belles, Red Hat Divas, Red Hat Honeys, Red Hat Tomatoes, Scarlett Dames, and the Scarlet Letters of Vero.

Florence Jones, Queen of Dazzling Dames in Red and Eileen Barrett, Queen of the Lucie Goosies greeted each lady as the arrived and placed a lei around their neck.

Lucille Petruzzelli and Tamara Hose, both members of the Lucie Goosies handled registration and gave each lady a teapot keychain favor and a door prize ticket.

Angel Decker, Vice Queen of Dazzling Dames in Red and Kathy McAmis, member of the Lucie Goosies sold Red Hat Split tickets.

Our meal was catered by Marie Smith Clancy Fine Food & Service of Vero Beach. Marie has catered a lot of our events and does an outstanding job.

Our meal consisted of BBQ Beef, Rolls, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Iced Tea or Water and Coconut Cake. There was a cash bar available.

After our meal, 16 door prizes were given out. We had several games.

The first game was a Hula Hoop Contest. There were about 6-8 participants. The winner was Joan Novak of the Foxy Red Hatters. Her prize was a Bobble Hula Girl.

Next we had a Cookie Licking Contest. Everyone was given an oreo cookie, along with several rules. Everyone would start at the same time. They would separate their cookies, and lick the icing, until it was all gone. At the point, they would holler Yahoo, I won. The ladies could lick the cookie in one direction only. They couldn't turn the cookie. They also couldn't scoop the icing with their tongues or bite/scrap it with their teeth. Less than a minute passed and several ladies tried to claim the victory. The declared winner was Betty Holzhauser of the Red Hat Divas. She won a cookie tin full of Oreo's.

The final game/contest was the WET T-Shirt Contest. The winner of this contest was also Joan Novak of the Foxy Red Hatters. She won a T-shirt with WET T-SHIRT WINNER on the front.

We had two Red Hat Split Winners. The first winner was Rita Woodburn of the Foxy Red Hatters. She won $100. The second winner was Kathyrn Dillemuth of Pampered Pack of Peacocks. She won $72.

Although the weather was a little too warm, everyone seemed to enjoy the day!
