The members of Association of Fundraising Professionals, Indian River Chapter (AFP-IR) proved that they had something special to offer when a group of members gathered to support Indian River Habitat for Humanity, one of its member organizations, during a "summer social work day." Eleven members and their spouses from various non-profit organizations joined together in the spirit of philanthropy to help build a home in Indian River Habitat for Humanity's Grace Woods. Together, the group flexed their carpentry muscles as they worked for four hours to build walls, raise trusses and install a new roof alongside the Habitat for Humanity homeowner.
"The mission of the AFP-IR is to advance philanthropy through the Fund Development Profession," explained President Lenora Ritchie. "Today is a great example of what we can accomplish when we all work together to serve our community." Participants enjoyed the sense of satisfaction they received from working together in the spirit of philanthropy. A fellowship lunch followed the outing during which the group enjoyed the chance to reflect on their day's accomplishment. Despite a few sore fingers and joints, members agreed it was a rewarding experience. The group is discussing making this AFP member-to-member work day an annual event.
The AFP-IRC membership is made up of professional fund development leaders in Indian River County. The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is a national organization that exists to foster the development and growth of fundraising professionals and the profession, to promote high ethical behavior in the fundraising profession and to preserve and enhance philanthropy and volunteerism. Members of AFP are motivated by an inner drive to improve the quality of life through the causes they serve. To learn more about AFP-IR: contact Pam King, 772-567-3202, membership@afpindianriver.com.
