Childcare Resources Festivities: What a season!
Contributed by: Rachael Moshman on 2/15/2006

The holiday spirit was in full force at Childcare Resources this year.  We got off to a great start when the Exchange Club of Indian River donated funds to provide Thanksgiving dinners for three of our families.  In December we were able to provide gifts to several of our families (including parents, and older siblings) thanks to the generosity of many wonderful individuals in our community.  Santa took a time out from his busy schedule to distribute gifts at the annual Dodgertown Christmas Party.  Thanks to all of the Dodgertown employees who gave our families a terrific party including food, crafts, gift cards to McDonalds, and gifts.  Last but certainly not least, a big thank you to the employees of Bent Pine Golf Club, the families of Maitland Farm Preschool, the families of the Learning Garden Montessori School, and the members of Riomar Country Club for providing car loads of beautiful toys and books for our children to enjoy. We transformed our office into a "Christmas Toy Store" and invited our families to come pick out a toy, book and stuffed animal for each child in the family.  We even had a wrapping station set up with donated wrapping paper, bows, and tags for parents who wanted to try and keep the gift a mystery from little eyes.  Some parents also brought their children along to pick out their own gift.  Imagine the overwhelming joy on the face of a small child who has just been told to pick out any toy they'd like from a room full of them!  We had a great time sharing all of this joy with our children and families.

We've also been celebrating the joy and importance of reading with our families over the last few months.  We took part in the Vero Beach Book Festival on November 12, 2005, which was great fun for all involved.  Saturday, January 21, 2006 was a great day to be at the Vero Beach Public Library as our families came together to learn about the joy of reading to our children.  This event was sponsored by Childcare Resources, Literacy Services of Indian River County and Big Brother Big Sisters.  Volunteers from Americorps, the Boys and Girls Club Youth Volunteer Corps, and the Junior League were greatly appreciated.  Veteran educator, and Childcare Resources board member, Wanda Lincoln, shared tips with the parents on how to make reading an event, while the children enjoyed story time with library staff.   Everyone shared a delicious breakfast, and enjoyed family craft time.

We have two events coming up that we'd love to see the community at:

You are invited to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon enjoying good polo, "horse d'oeurves" and libations among friends at the Children's Cup Polo Match:  March 12, 1:00 P.M., Pointe West.  This annual event is sponsored by Northern Trust Bank.  It includes face painting and a silent auction that features hand painted doll houses designed by local artists.  Last year we had rocking horses which were very popular.  We expect the doll houses to be just as creative and unique - the perfect gift for a special child in your life.  All members of Childcare Resources are invited to attend this event as our guests - our way of saying thank you for your ongoing support.  Non-members are welcome to attend as well - the cost is $30 per person.

Our 2nd Annual Comedy Night is coming up on Saturday, April 1, 2006.  It will be held at 8:00 P.M. at the Indian River Shores Community Center, 6001 North A1A.   This event will feature the talents of professional comedians Tom Segura and Ryan Sickler.  Tom lives in Los Angeles and performs in top comedy clubs, films and theater.  He has performed with Jay Mohr and Dave Attell, among many others.  His parents reside right here in Indian River County.  Ryan is from LA as well and frequently opens for Tom in the big clubs.  $75 per person includes open bar.

Please call Rachael at the Childcare Resources office, 567-3202, to let her know if you would like to attend either of these events.  All major credit cards are accepted.

The mission of Childcare Resources is to ensure the availability and affordability of high quality childhood and family support programs for children of income eligible working families in Indian River County.  We provide tuition assistance for quality early care and preschool, support and guidance to maintain family stability, access to mental health professionals at a greatly reduced fee, and a wide variety of parenting programs and family enrichment opportunities.
