Indian River County boasts many outstanding young people but recently in conjunction with the Youth Guidance Mentoring Program, the Exchange Club of Vero Beach was proud to recognize eleven students for their academic successes. On August 12, 2008 at the Club's weekly luncheon, the following students were recognized with a plaque and monetary award in memory of Chris Beecher who had been an active member of Exchange and a devoted mentor at Youth Guidance before her untimely death. Two students received straight As during the last school year; they are Melissa Barajas and Jessica Cox. Those rewarded for most improved grades for the 2007-2008 school year are: Rameka Brannon, Debroha Hawkins, Willie Cobb, Humberto Hill, Polly Morabito, Lucien (CJ) Rosier, DiAndre Mayes, Jesha Lattimore and Glentisha Thomas. Club members proudly recognize all of the students for their hard work and achievements.
The Exchange Club of Vero Beach was chartered in December 1950. It supports local youth organizations such as Youth Guidance and the Exchange Club CASTLE for the prevention of child abuse. The Exchange Club of Vero Beach also provides college scholarships through its Foundation to worthy graduating high school students. Funds for the Club's charitable gifts and scholarships are raised through its fundraising efforts, including the sale of Christmas trees, citrus and nut sales. Meetings are held at the Riverhouse on Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. For membership information call President Tammy Vock at 978-4701.
