Marllyn Justice, treasurer of the Exchange Club of Indian River Foundation, presented a check for $3,500 to CASTLE on September 17. Gundula Hargraves, CASTLE's Marketing Director, accepted the check on behalf of the agency. It will use this money in its work to develop improved parenting skills and facilitate healthy environments for children. The presentation was made at the weekly luncheon meeting of Exchange Club of Indian River at Culinary Capers. President-Elect Ed Kay is the Club's liaison to CASTLE.
Each year the Exchange Club of Indian River Foundation awards grants to community agencies in Indian River County for special projects that further the Foundation's goal of prevention of child abuse. Winners of the grants are determined by the relevance of the project's goals to the Club's mission and related factors. Jenny Frederick and Narda Riese serve as co-chairs of the Grants Committee.
Funds for the grants and other club charities are raised through the Foundation's major fund-raisers, including the Blue Water Open Offshore Charity Fishing Tournament held each Memorial Day weekend, the annual Charity Reverse Raffle, and an innovative new program that donates a portion of members' online purchases to the Foundation.
Further information about the organization is available from Foundation president Robert Poore at 772-360-3137, Exchange Club president Scott Wallace at 772-538-5484, or at the Club's websites, www.exchangeclubofindianriver.org and www.bluewateropen.org. Persons interested in learning more about joining Exchange Club of Indian River or working for prevention of child abuse may seek further information from any member of the club.
