EXCHANGE CLUBS FOCUS ON PREVENTING CHILD ABUSE

Recent news articles report an unfortunate increase in accidents involving children. This is not unexpected, given the difficult time many parents are having with the economy. Financial stress can lead to heath problems, high blood pressure, and increased child abuse. Fortunately, according to Eric Menger, president of the Florida District Exchange Clubs, help is available at the Exchange Club CASTLE. Formed 27 years ago by local Exchange Clubs, CASTLE is a beacon of hope for children in Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee counties. CASTLE gives parents a place to go where they can receive training and assistance before they reach the boiling point. Parents can contact the CASTLE any time. They will find good people there who can help. CASTLE's main office is at 3525 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce (772-465-6011). Other locations include 1275 Old Dixie Highway, Vero Beach (772-567-5700) and 3824 SE Dixie Highway in Stuart (772-781-4510). The website, www.castletc.org, contains further information. The primary goal of the National Exchange Club has been the prevention of child abuse for many years. Although many organizations help children after they have been neglected or hurt, the Exchange Club is the one volunteer organization that works overtime to prevent children from being hurt in the first place. Persons interested in learning more about working for the prevention of child abuse are encouraged to visit a meeting of a local Exchange Club.
